Our first event of 2023 at the bookshop celebrates a new voice in fiction.
Kathy Biggs’ first novel The Luck, published by Welsh women’s press Honno, is an epic generational saga set in America’s rural west.
It is 1930: Beattie and Darragh give all they have to make a living from their Midwest farm, The Luck, pouring their love into their home and their one son. When Conrad leaves to find a new life they are heartbroken, but later thrilled when his two young daughters come to live with them. The girls are a new start for Beattie and she is determined to keep them.
As Olive and Rose grow up as strong-willed as their grandmother, the family will see betrayal, heartbreak, murder and also intense joy in this gripping family saga.

THE AUTHOR
Kathy Biggs is originally from Yorkshire, where she trained to be a nurse. She took a summer job in Mid Wales with her husband in 1985 – and never left. They bought a derelict cottage and lived 'off grid' for 14 years. During this time she started a family, trained to be a homeopath and took up Samba drumming. She has lived in her current location for the last 23 years: working and raising her family. She is a keen gardener and leads a local samba band. After being made redundant in 2017 she completed several Creative Writing courses provided by Aberystwyth University and discovered a passion for writing. The Luck is her first novel.
