Kington artist Kathryn Moore has produced her first book A Brush with the Borders - An Artist’s Year capturing the evolving year at Hergest Croft Gardens following her year as artist in residence.
A Brush with the Borders - An Artist’s Year published by Logaston Press follows Kathryn’s journey through her painted diaries of the season’s cycle. This stunning visual treat (hardback A4 with 160 pages of full-colour at £25) illustrates both natural history - birds and insects, and horticulture, in watercolours, drawings, and hand-written notes of her observations. It has been compared to Edith Holden’s Diary of An Edwardian Lady
Part of Kathryn’s role as artist in residence was to create two paintings per month based on her sketchbooks; a selection of the paintings will also be on display in the bookshop.
Kat and Fiddle Studio in Kington is Kathryn’s home-base which she established five years ago when moving to Herefordshire from North Somerset where she studied Fine Art at Bristol.
Kathryn will be signing at North Books, 4 Castle Street, Hay-on-Wye on Friday 21 June, from 10am.
THE ARTIST
After many years teaching the visual arts in adult education it was in Herefordshire that she became a full-time artist. “Opening the studio in Kington has given me the opportunity to work and display my paintings, a place for folk to come in and see me at work, and for me to meet locals and visitors to the town,” she said.
